Recommendations for parents
from the American Academy
of Pediatrics include:

  • Limit total screen time (TV, movies, video games and computer time) to one to two hours a day. (For Children younger than 2, it is recommended there by no screen time.)
  • Be aware of the affects of viewing in video games and through other media.
  • Encourage careful selection of programs and games
  • Co-view and discuss the topics that children and adolescents are exposed to
  • Limit and focus time spent with media
  • Be good media role models by selectively using media and limiting your own media
  • Emphasize alternative activities
  • Create an "electronic media-free" environment in children's rooms
